Hennie (Matthys, H) Botha is an Associate Professor and Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Stellenbosch and Tygerberg Hospital. He serves on the council of the International Gynaecological Cancer Society and the South African Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Advisory Board. He is a clinician and teaches under- and post-graduate students. He has research interests in fertility preservation in female cancer patients, the prevention and management of cervical cancer and the interaction between Human Immune Deficiency virus (HIV) and Human Papilloma virus (HPV). He has authored articles in journals and is co-editor of the textbook “Clinical Gynaecology”.

After qualification as a medical doctor, Prof Botha started his professional career in a rural hospital in Malawi. Returning to South Africa he specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and then did further training in the field of Gynaecological Oncology in the United Kingdom.
